Hello and welcome to Love & Crochet's blog! This is our very first free crochet pattern, and we're so excited to share it with you. The little dog bone is so quick to make and uses hardly any yarn. Crochet it as a last-minute handmade gift for a friend, a little applique to spice up your wardrobe, or anything else creative you can come up with!
Before we get into the pattern, I have a super quick message. We display advertisements on this page using third-party cookies to show content relevant to you. This helps us provide this free blog post tutorial. Thank you for being here and enjoy the article!
Really quick- if you're interested in the video tutorial for this pattern, check out the video above from our YouTube Channel! Otherwise, enjoy the pattern 😊
This little dog bone applique can be used any way you'd like, as mentioned above. In the pictures throughout this post, you'll see a few examples; on a sweater, a shirt, slippers, a dog collar—pretty much anything, which is perfect for all of the dog lovers out there. You can also make it in whatever color you'd like, whether it's the traditional white or a standout blue. Without further ado, let's get into the materials you'll need!
Materials
- 5 mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
I don't have any specific suggestions for most of the materials you'll need (except for my lovely Singer scissors), but if you're a beginner and would like some advice on what to get first, feel free to send a comment down below!
March 2023 update: My favorite scissors are 42% off right now so hurry and grab them while they're at this amazing price!
Gauge
The gauge for this pattern isn't super important; use a higher tension for a smaller bone and a looser tension for a bigger bone (either way the size doesn't vary much). The finished size shown in the pictures here is as follows: the width is 1.75 inches (4.45 centimeters), and the height is 1 inch (2.54 centimeters).
Abbreviations
ch - chain
st - stitch(es)
sl st - slip stitch
